When Seth grew up, he had a son and named him Enosh. At that time people first began to worship the Lord by name.
At this point it had only been a couple or three hundred years since Adam and Eve have been removed from the Garden. The word worship is not mentioned anywhere before this point. Cain and Able each offered a sacrifice to God in one instance but it didn't have much of a happy ending. Adam and Eve have Seth. Seth has a son named Enosh. People worshiped. What caused this sudden movement to happen and be noted?
The cool thing that this further illustrates is this. Before this point people had received no commandments on who they should worship, why they should worship, or when they should worship. They just worshiped. They didn't have to be taught, instructed, or coerced. They just worshiped.
In Genesis 2 when God breathed the breath of life into the nostrils of Adam to bring him to life (which would be cool to see - wish I could do it with Ella's playdough), He also included what he need to worship him. The desire, the passion, the need to worship. So if He put it in Adam, and we are all descendants of Adam. Then, it's in you!
It's kind of disheartening, probably especially to God, that we have to teach on and encourage people to do what we were created to do.
Last week I asked the teenagers to remember their firtst true worship experience. When they knew they had connected with the One who created them. Do you remember yours?
