Vision Pt 3

Over the last few weeks I've been working through some vision and direction "issues" (for lack of a better word)

I had a very challenging and reflective day on Thursday with my good buddy Vince. He asked me some tough but needed questions. (And it was only our first date.) I actually was up until 2 am or later that night thinking through things that I haven't thought about in a long time. I've lost focus. In the midst of doing and keeping my head above water, I've failed to plan what happens once I get my head above water. I used to organize, think, and plan. Now I just "do".

It's just action without vision as the previous post stated = nightmare.

We know the scripture, "Without vision, people perish". I've had vision, but only looked at the same thing for a couple of years. If you think about your physical vision. What would you be like if you only looked at the same thing each day, nothing changed from moment to moment, second to second? Bored? Lost?Crazy? Luckily, our vision is constantly changing, but leading us in the direction we need to go. I spent the weekend refocusing on what God's vision is for me and the ministry He's given to me.

Vince asked me this (only 3 of a possible 7 questions)

- What's a win/success in your ministry?
- Do people know that?

- How do they get there?

This is stuff that pastors should constantly be thinking about, but in the doing, we forget the what, the why, and the how.

I spent Thursday Night, Friday, and some on Saturday writing pages of notes (well only 6) on things in relation to FaithPointe Students.

  • What's important.
  • What we do.
  • How we follow up.
  • How we disciple.
  • -What are our Values?
It's been at least a year maybe more since I took a look at these. Thanks Vince!

I am honored that you would allow me to be open and that YOU would open and expose yourself to me.
I spoke to a couple of churches yesterday and one of my points that God uses to grow our faith is "providental relationships." Besides my father-n-law, I consider Britt, Josh You and Donald the people in my life to keep my faith growing. I can't thank you enough for that.
I so glad, that you are getting to wrestle with these questions.
Here's the total 7 steps as I mentioned from teaching of Andy Stanley....
1. Clarify the Win
2. Think Steps, Not Programs
3. Narrow the Focus
4. Teach Less for More (this is huge)
5. Listen to Outsiders (ummm...what! lol )
6. Replace Yourself....(I know what your thinking... ;) )
7. Work on It

Can't wait to meet up again. Anytime, I'm open!
Blessings and Love ya!

And for the sake of not sounding too mooshy.....
In The Dark Knight....Two Face in laying in the hospital bed as his eyes focus on "the Joker" he lashes out towards him, but the bed restraints keep in tied down....he catches his breath and say's "young man, what's your plan." The Joker then responds, "does it look like I have a plan? I just do...things"

hmmmm....when we just do things (without knowing) we promote chaos.

Boom!!! Take it!!!! ah ha! ;)

The Joker illustration goes with the quote..

"Vision without action is only daydreaming...action without vision is a nightmare!"
